We spent our first outdoor night in forest near New Castle. It was also the first test for our tent, because after hot and sunny Wednesday came rain and it was raining nearly till noon (tent is quite good, it kept us dry). So we arrived to New Castle around one o'clock. After finishing all our bank stuff (we sent some money home, got some cash, etc... this was the last First Merit in this part of the world), after very brief lunch when we finally start biking, came the rain. The sky was heavy with clouds whole day, so we didn't pay attention to one small shower. But very soon it changed to heavy cloudburst and in minute the water was everywhere. Streets and sidewalks where we were (we were walking next to bikes because of steep hill) changed to streams. Run off like from Dr. Noah Itall's presentation. Second test of this day - are our penniers really waterproof? (yes, they are) We already knew that we aren't, not after a huge shower from truck passing by. SJ was laughing and nearly forgot to close her mouth before she got this truck shower too. Fortunately it wasn't cold so we continued for the rest of the day in the rain. And if Ohio was like a huge calm sea, Pennsylvania is like a lake on a windy day. Many small (and big) hills. Finally the rain stopped and we found small lake in the middle of nowhere, quite good for camping and swimming. So now we are camping somewhere between New Castle and the Allegheny river, & this morning is quite chilly and misty. Where is the sun? It needs to come dry out our clothes!
